Goal Setting
Goal setting is your servant, not your master, it should bring you real pleasure, satisfaction and a sense of achievement.

Setting goals and working towards them can be very exciting when you after a while look back over what you have achieved so far. It will bust your self-esteem and give you a sense of confidence to continue on your way to achieve bigger and more difficult things.

As long as you have the personal discipline you need to continue to work toward the goal you have set for yourself it should be rather easy for you to accomplish. Planning and goal setting can be a tremendous help in your pursuit to reach your goal and if you adopt a step by step approach you will experience a sense of achievement along the way.

Goal setting is a standard technique used by professional athletes, successful business people and high achievers in all fields it gives you long term vision and provides you with short term motivation to achieve the things you want.

How to start goal setting

To get started write down your goals because this crystallize them and give them more force. In writing them down you are better able to keep up with your scheduled tasks for each accomplishment you complete.

Keep the goals you are working towards small and easy to achieve. If you make them to big then it can seem like you are not making any progress towards it. Keeping your target small and achievable allows you more opportunities for reward. It is important to set goals that you can achieve.

Be realistic in your goal setting and don’t set unrealistic goals for yourself which is almost guaranteed to fail. Just as it is important not to set them to high, do not set them to low either, people tend to do this when they are afraid of failure or when they simply don't want to do anything.

Set achievable goals

You should set goals so that they are slightly out of your immediate grasp, but not so far that there is no hope of achieving them. No one will put serious effort into achieving something that they believe is unattainable.

When you have achieved what you wanted you have to take the time to enjoy the satisfaction of having done so. Absorb the implications of the achievement, and observe the progress you have made towards your bigger goal. Reward yourself according to the significance of what you have achieved.

Think of it like this, why would you choose to ignore any accomplishments that you have made? In doing that, you are downplaying your achievements which will convince you that it wasn't that important in the first place.

With the experience of having achieved each goal, that you have set for yourself you should next review the rest of your goal setting planning and see them in the following manner;

You can make changes along the way

lf you achieved the goal too easily, make the next one a little harder.

If the goal took a disheartening length of time to achieve, make the next one a little easier.

lf you learned something that would lead you to change other goals, do so.

lf while achieving the goal you noticed a certain lacking in your skills, then be prepared to learn new skills.

You should keep in mind that failure to meet goals does not matter as long as you have learned from it. Feed lessons learned back into your goal setting program. You must also remember that your goals will change as you mature. Adjust them regularly to reflect this growth in your personality. lf goals no longer hold any attraction for you let them go. Goal setting is your servant, not your master. It should bring you real pleasure, satisfaction and a sense of achievement.
